Istiqlal Mosque is one of the largest mosques in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
During his visit to the war torn city of Sarajevo in March 1995 and paid a courtesy call to Bosnian President Alija Izetbegović, Indonesian President Suharto contemplating an idea to build a mosque in the city as a gift for the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Suharto mobilized his administrations to realize his idea, and appointing Fauzan Noe’man, one of Indonesia’s foremost architect to design the mosque and proceed with the project. Noe’man was known for his works in constructing grand mosque of Batam, Baiturrahim mosque in Merdeka Palace complex, and also At-Tin mosque (1999) in East Jakarta near Taman Mini Indonesia Indah. The project is started in 1995, however because the turmoil in Indonesia led to the fall of Suharto in 1998 has stalled the construction process.
The mosque was completed and inaugurated in September 2001 by Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs Said Agil Al Munawar.[1] A year later in September 2002 during her stately visit to Sarajevo, President Megawati Soekarnoputri also visited the mosque.

كهدية لشعب البوسنة والهرسك. حشد سوهارتو إداراته لتحقيق فكرته ، وقام بتعيين فوزان نويمان ، أحد أبرز المهندسين المعماريين في إندونيسيا لتصميم المسجد والمضي قدمًا في المشروع.
اشتهر نعيمان بأعماله في بناء مسجد باتام الكبير ، ومسجد بيت إبراهيم في مجمع قصر مرديكا ، وكذلك مسجد التين (1999) في شرق جاكرتا بالقرب من تامان ميني إندونيسيا إنداه. بدأ المشروع
في عام 1995 ، ولكن بسبب الاضطرابات في إندونيسيا التي أدت إلى سقوط سوهارتو في عام 1998 أوقفت عملية البناء.

Description
This mosque has been given to Sarajevo, Bosnia as gesture of goodwill and brotherhood from the people and the government of Indonesia. The name of this mosque has been taken from the mosque in Jakarta, Indonesia which signifies the close bonds of friendship and good brotherly relations between the two countries. This mosque has been constructed in the city of OTOKA, a city of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Istiqlal in Arabic means Independence. This could also be taken as gift of Indonesian people and Government on the Occasion of the independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Some people call it by the name “Suharto Mosque” while others also call it “Indonesia Mosque”. This mosque was gifted to Bosnia during the rule of Suharto Regime.
تم تسليم هذا المسجد إلى سراييفو ، البوسنة كبادرة حسن نية وأخوة من شعب وحكومة إندونيسيا. تم أخذ اسم هذا المسجد من مسجد جاكرتا بإندونيسيا مما يدل
